REMEDY FOR NIGHTMARES

Do you or your children have nightmares or scary dreams? Wish you
could do something simple to put an end to them? Maybe your dream
catcher doesn't catch them all and you can use one of the following
old time methods that really works!

Take a bowl of fresh water - need not be spring, distilled or anything
special as plain old tap water will do - and place this under the bed
of the one who is having nightmares. You place this under the bed prior
to going to sleep. In the morning, when you wake up, take the bowl and
pour it into the toilet and flush. That's it! Simple & very effective.

The next method involves the herb Wormwood. Not mugwort which is a
cousin to Wormwood or any other derivative because they do NOT work! Sprinkle the Wormwood in under the bed's sheet so that the person sleeping does not have their direct skin contact with the Wormwood. You can leave this on there for one week then remove. If
the nightmares are particularly difficult, then remove each day, vacuum off the wormwood, and replace it.

I have tried to make a mojo bag with Wormwood for
nightmares and hang it on the bedpost of the one who has
trouble sleeping. It works somewhat but not nearly as good as the
Wormwood under the sheet. The water seems to work the best and is the
easiest. The Wormwood is an old time Hoodoo cure as is
the water method but many old RootWorkers are more inclined to use the
Wormwood

Thank you. The nightmares are not frequent, but it helps to have a plan for when they do occur. Any thoughts on how to explain this as I do it? (bad dreams are heavy, they don't like water ???)

True confessions, I don't have time to deal with sprinkling anything under the sheets.

Do you have a method of cleansing or re-charging a dream catcher? I suspect our dream catchers are a bit full.

Good question....I have no idea why water works Maybe somebody else knows.
Also, I agree with the wormwood on the matress...it's a little messy for me too.
Now I didn't know that dreamcatchers can "fill up"?! I'm not Native American and I always thought that they just catch the "bad" dreams and make them go away since the original ones are made out of willow, sage etc. (since sage is a "cleaning" agent..... Again, maybe somebody else knows
Peace, Romana

I seem to remember that you use water for some uncrossings too. I have a feeling that it has something to do with waters cleansing properties. Just a hunch on that though.

Cleansing dream catchers is easy... You hang them in the window. The suns rays will pop the bad dreams that have caught themselves in the web.

I've also heard of rubbing a clove of garlic on the soles of the feet. I've tried this one on my son when he was younger (he's always had night terrors that he can't seem to wake up from). It must have worked too well cause he came to me a few days later and asked to have his bad dreams back. He never did explain why he wanted the bad ones too, but... I guess you can't expect anything more from a very small child.

As soon as the sun returns I'll clear out our dream catchers.

I wonder if I should add salt to the water?

I'm not sure my boys would get back to sleep with the smell of garlic. I do know that rubbing Vicks vapor rub on their feet quiets a cough. (Works for me too.)

Can't hurt to salt the water. Can't think of any reason not to.

Oddly enough the smell of the garlic didn't stay at his feet but came out on his breath. It was kind of weird. I mean, I know that there are parts of the body that are really absorbant, but I never figured on the feet.
