Sensaval VS Herbal tea 2 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: -2
I have a friend who takes Sensaval (which is a medicine against bipolar disorder). I often has herbal tea at home. Usually we drink tea with just 100% chamomile. But This time We drank Peppermint tea (ingredients below). Well, it's no danger right now. But She feels bad in her stomach area after drinking it. She says it feels strange and "nasty".

I know some herbs don't work good with this kind of medicine. St John's wort is an example on those. St John's wort actually takes away the effect the medicine gives. And of course this things makes me curious about the conflicts between Herbs and chemicals.

My questions is: Does any one here know a good source of information about the conflict between Herbal medicine and chemical (normal) medicine? And if any one here knows any conflicts in this particular situation I would be very glad to hear. I have written down the ingredients of the tea. I am not sure about the English though (i tried to translate it) but The Latin should be the same global ;P

May pop (Passiflora incarnata)
Peppermint (Mentha ×piperita)
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)

Thank for any answers!

There is not a complete listing out yet. Mostly because there is so little known about how herbs actually work in the system.

Any of the ingerdients in the tea could have interacted with her medication, but if pushed to guess I would say that the most likely culprits would be the lavendar, the lemon balm or the passion flower. It's doubtfull that it could have been the peppermint but....

The best bet it to try again omiting one of the herbs and take notes on the effects. Then as you go on you can try adding small quantities back in until the ill feeling returns. This is called titration.

Let us know how it works out Des.

He, Well. As interested I am I'm not sure She is willing to "titrate". We'll see

Thank you though. I figured it may be the peppermint as it stimulates the "digestion". And maybe don't have with the medication to do at all. We all respond so very differently.

If any one knows any thing more my questions is still up.

Hey Des, I have to go with April here....There is no way that chamomille or peppermint can bring a reaction.
