We had a lot of questions in the forum about different plants etc. Here is a simple way of finding out for yourself ......You will actually learn something by that and not having everybody else on the forum DO the work for you.
1. Look up the genus of the plant itself. What other plant is it related too? Is it part of a larger family of plants, shrubs or trees? IF SO then what are the Magical properties of that plant(s)? They are related and so will be their properties but there WILL be differences.
2. Talk to the plant until the plant talks back to you. This is the old Root Worker's way of finding out how to use a plant. They did this when they came from Africa and discovered that our plants here were mostly different though had some similarities.
3. Invoke the Green Man who is the Lord of Nature and the Woods. The Green Man will be able to tell you what the plant does and how to use it in Magic. In Haitain Vodu, they talk to Gran Bwa and Cousin Zaka about such matters; in Yoruba, they talk to Osain. For Witches, the Green Man is the go to guy for that info.
Try it and you will find it very useful and you have the knowledge to show.

I learn the most doing things this way. I never have to invoke a God(ess) though. The plant is usually more than happy to tell me what it can be used for.

You just have to remember that they don't think like we do, and that they are much more ready to communicate if they are still alive rather than harvested and dried.

Thanks for the post script. Sometimes I forget that we have to spell everything out to the "t". And you are right...the "live" plant usually does the trick.
