Hi all - thanks for asking.
She's doing as well as can be expected. She still has to wear a support splint on her wrist (the worst of the fractures) which the doctors are saying could take up to a year to heal given the complexity of the break. We're aiming to beat that.
She's also having a few memory problems which have been diagnosed as early stage dementia, so we're expecting a difficult few years.
That all said, there have been some other elements contributing to those problems which we are working on and seeing some improvement.

Gosh! It's good and bad all rolled into one, isn't it?
I'm sending healing energy her way, and positive supportive energy yours. You are right. The next little bit will be a hard stretch.

Same from me....
I can tell you from personal experience that it won't be easy. My mother (lives in Germany) is 80 and they said the same thing about the Dementia. She has good and not so god days. We were told that if it's progressing that she has to go to a assisting living place. But Julian, what can we do....but make the best of it.

Thanks very much everyone for your kind words and concern.
I am in many ways, borrowing trouble. That is, things are not too bad yet. Having seen other relatives go through this increasingly common experience, the family has a good idea of what to expect.*
I think it is important to remember that, like the computer controlled factory, the brain is just the wiring. IF you switch the connections around in the factory, the controller may pressing all the right buttons, but production goes to bits, so too with the brain.
Once again, thanks for your consideration and efforts.
*What this foreknowledge is doing for my mother I don't know since she won't discuss it.

Just hang in there.....What scares me about that is that, as you said, we all get older and older and it may well lay in our future too. Who knows....Take care
