I know everyone is busy. I, for one, have been hiding. Sometimes reality is overwhelming and I hide in a book or two. I know we talked about Dan Brown's The Symbol recently. I would be interested in other books you've enjoyed or found useful. This can be fiction or non-fiction. I've been leaning towards stories that relate to my own quest to reach out to the energies that I cannot see. However, the escapist in me has been pursuing fiction. Young adult fiction. It's easier to keep track of the story when I hear someone calling "Mmmmommm" (insert numerous syllabols) every 15 minutes.

I am wrapping up a series called The Last Apprentice. It takes place at a time before indoor plumbing when everyone walked where they were going. The young hero is an apprentice to a "Spook." Witches are not necessarily the good guys - however, they often save the day. The use of salt and iron is frequent and herbal remedies are discussed, but not in detail. I appreciate the glimpse into a life simply lived. Not that I would give up indoor plumbing, my washing machine or the internet. However, I would gladly walk away from traffic, office politics and air pollution.

So, read any good books lately?

Lighter reading, hmmmm.....Besides historic romance novels maybe the Twighlight sagas or I like the vampire chronicles too. It's hard to concentrate with the youngens running around....I think I mentioned it before somewhere but I red the book called "The Historian" which scared the crap out of me.....but it's more intense and very thick. I also have a good book which is called "Blue Roots" by Roger Pickney. It's funny and informative. It's about 2 rootdoctors who try to outdo each other.
Well, those are my 2 cents worth.....Happy reading! R

I enjoyed the Twilight series. Can't say that I'm all that into the present frenzy.

I also read the Vampire Diaries. A fun read, but I'm over the teen angst. With a 12 going on 16-year-old, I have enough hormones going on around me.

I'm also over vampires already, which is too bad. I've always enjoyed Stoker's Dracula.

Blue Roots was a challenge to find on Amazon, but I located it. Looks interesting. My first look is always to the library. I read so many books these days, my husband grumbles about the cost. Used is good too.

Thanks!

Named, check out your local craig's list. Somebody might be selling or swapping reading material. Local flea markets are also a good place. Keeps the cost down and the hubby happy.

I actually meant the vampire chronicles by Ann Rice. The book 'Merrick' is pretty good and Queen of the Damned. Way better than the movie....Aren't the Vampire dairies a knock of version for teens like twilight?

Well, I will hit the shower and go to bed...3:30am comes pretty quick. Have a good night...R

Right now I'm reading "The Horus Heresy" novels. It's a Warhammer 40k series. But I also like stuff by Charles De Lint, and anything else science fiction or fantasy.

Ya know.... If you can still find it there is a book called "Fifth Sacred Thing" by Starhawk that is really good and she even wrote a prequel called "Walking to Mercury".

Well got to run to work now...

I've enjoyed Anne Rice's early work. I can't seem to wrap my head around her newer stuff. It's as hard to get through as Ayn Rand.

I've found Powells.com is good for used books. They buy books too - from anywhere around the US. However, I still enjoy the time spent browsing rows and rows of books. Cover art has evolved through the years as well.

I'm going to look for Starhawk now. Thanks.

Not to leave the guys out, but how about books with strong female rolls? I've found some, but reading about women in their 20's leaves me feeling like I missed something 20 years ago.
