I was not sure if I wanted to open this thread. We all know that when a doubt enters your mind and is then fed by others it often creates a small voice in the back of your mind that is counter productive to what you believe. But.....

That having been said, I have spent enough time in recent weeks testing this that I am secure in what I have seen and believe so now just looking for expansive thoughts.

There was an article posted here not long ago about the use of a pendulum. I have never worked with this kind of divination, I use the Tarot. The article made pendulum use look very attractive because of its simplicity and the lack of need to interpret the reading. Everything that I had ever read about the use of a pendulum (mass produced and store bought) was that a yes answer would be swinging up/down like nodding yes and a no answer would be side to side like nodding no. This was the reason that I never bothered with a pendulum becuase to me, pre-determining what the answers would look like was putting the spirit/entity/universe/energy or whatever is controlling the pendulum into a box and telling IT how it will answer. That goes against everything that I know about the spirit world in general. I have always found it best to let them lead and guide you so I never bothered.

But that article was different. In fact it suggested using an item that you wear every day, like a ring, tied to a light string and then you ask the pendulum to show you how it will answer for yes and no. I began working with this and was instantly shocked at the outcome. I asked to be shown yes and it went from standing dead still to swinging around in a cirlce. For no it was swinging either back and forth toward me. This is different then anything pre determined direction I had ever read before so I began testing. Asking if my name was what it is and getting yes and asking if my name had ever been anything else (just naming off names) and getting no. Then I began switched from questions I knew as yes to ones I knew as no in rapid concession to see what it would do and every single time it would switch to the correct answer fairly quickly.

I began to wonder if my knowledge of the answers was effecting the outcome so I enlisted the help of a friend. I asked the same set of questions "is _____ in the room with me" "is his name _____" "has his name ever been _____" and I kept naming off common mens names. All of a sudden the pendulum changed direction to show yes to one of the names I said and his face went white and he told me to stop right now. Turns out he goes by his middle name and that is the name I know him by. His real name was the one that caused the pendulum to swing yes and it freaked him out because I do no know him that well and did not have any way to know that his real name was something else.

I moved on to more advanced stuff. There was a strange car at a loved ones house and I had never seen the car before. I began asking the pendulum who it was and started naming names. It swung yes to a certain name so I waited to see and sure enough, that is who it was.

Now to the hard part, asking questions that you may not realy want to know the answer to or things that the answer may be painful. I have asked this pendulum if it is being controlled by spirit and gotten a yes answer. Others have asked theirs and gotten a no or unsure. What do you think controls that pendulum?

I had a fight with my boyfriend two nights ago. I asked the pendulum if he was going to call me that night and it said no. He didn't. I asked if he would call me the next day and say sorry, it said no. I shortened the question to will he call tomorrow at all? Answer was yes. Okay so he is gonna call but no appologize. Okay. Well at 10pm last night he still had not called and I began to allow doubt to enter into my mind. At 10:30 he did call and all was well. I immediately appoligized to the pendulum for my doubt.

Do you think that your spirit guide or some other spirit or entity controls this pendulum? My friend bought one for himself and can not get any response of movement from it. I picked him up and had immediate and strong response from his. If it is controlled by spirit then I assume it was the same spirit working with me that works with me when I am using my ring. Why else would he get no response with his own but I can get his to respond quite well.

I've used a pendulum on and off for many years (at least 30) and have come to the conclusion that it is operated by the unconscious mind.

Where the unconscious gets the information is another question.

When I was first starting out, I used it to predict the weather I would experience throughout the day. At first it was a bit hit and miss (accurate 86% of the time). However I started leaving my coat at home if it said I would miss the rain and it improved tremendously (especially after the first soaking to show I was serious).

I use all sorts of things as pendulums, and wear a pendant that can serve when nothing else is to hand. After a while I noticed a feeling which accompanied accurate answers and found I could sometimes dispense with the pendulum for straight yes/no questions and just visualise two boxes with "Yes" and "No" on them and wait for one to light up.

I still like to use the device though, and have trained it into backwards/forwards for "Yes", and side to side for "No". This has the major advantage over say, circular responses, in that it allows for degrees of correctness to be indicated by swinging between the two (usually showing the question is poorly phrased). It also allows for accurate measuring of all kinds of things as described in "Pendulum and Possession" (although I cannot agree with the possession claims in this title it is otherwise extremely useful).

What you hold in your mind when asking determines the answer rather than the formal question though, so be careful. This can also bias the answer if you strongly desire an outcome.

Learning to blank your mind while waiting for the response is invaluable.

THIS IS WHERE I LIKE TO DIFFER WITH JULIAN. SORRY JULIAN! AS I UNDERSTAND IT JULIAN SEES IT MORE AS A SCIENTIFIC TOOL WHERE I LEAN TO SPIRITUAL INTERVENTION. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE SPIRITS ARE GUIDING THE PENTULUM AND THEREFORE ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS.
I LIKE TO USE JUST A SIMPLE BAND AND A STRING. I WAS TOLD TO LAY THE RIGHT HAND FLAT ON THE TABLE WITH THE THUMB EXTENDED OUT. THEN YOU HAVE TO DIP THE PENDULUM 3 TIMES IN BETWEEN THE SPACE OF THE THUMB AND HAND. WHEN IT SWINGS IN A CIRCLE IT IS A YES AND WHEN IT SWINGS FROM SIDE TO SIDE IT IS A NO.
I GUESS EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN WAY OF DOING THINGS AND I GUESS THERE ISN'T A RIGHT OR WRONG WAY.

I guess there is no real right or wrong way either. I don't know what controlls them, or answers our questions. Who or whatever controls mine preffers to be called Lucien and he will even give me and "I won't, or can't answer" ( circles)

Any form of divination can be scary to those not familiar with it's accuracy. How? Well I'm not entirly sure, I mean I have a couple of theories but no proof for either.

Either we are tapping into the collective unconcious, or we are tapping into the Divine. Either way, we are being given information that can be open to interpretation, so we must use caution. Be sure you want the answer. Any time you ask be prepared for pain, you might not like the answer you get. Clear your mind, and focus because I do know that the concious mind can be powerful and get in the way.

I believe that the Pendulum works as i have a clear quartz one. Every pendulum you have is different to everyone else. On one person swinging sideways is a yes and swinging upwards is a no. But could be the exact opposite to someone else. I got told for the energy to get use to you, to put it under your pillow for a couple of nights.
