My Thoughts on Meditation/Divination

There is a new consciousness in our society. New ideas. Many call it ‘New Age’ information. Much of it is useful, much of it is confusing.

Meditation or divination is never an act of mood making. Pure silence, pure consciousness, the eternal side of our nature, it is beyond all thought. You cannot just talk yourself into it and expect results. It comes by grace and grace alone. So you ask ‘what is grace? How do you make it come?’ That is where, in my opinion, a good teacher is important. Many of the ‘ New Age’ crafters are quick to throw away the idea of all authority. They believe that no one can teach anything, that it is all inside a person. That is true to a certain extent. On the other hand, to uncover what is inside you, you must “bow” at the feet of someone who has already discovered that gift. I know.....all of you are upset now because of what I said so let me explain....I use the word “bow” carefully, because until a person is ready to humble him/herself and admit that s/he doesn’t know, then s/he can learn nothing of value. It takes great humility and courage to even approach a teacher! These are the issues the “New Age” crafters sometimes forget.

I find it entertaining that all that is 'New Age' is based on ancient principals. However, what is new is the technology. Teachers can be found on the internet and on DVD. I am working on Buddhist meditation techniques using a DVD and book combination. I glean from it what works for me.

Will I achieve authentic levels of meditation? Probably not. Will I learn and move forward. Most likely. I'm not trying to become a Buddhist. Until that level of contentment can live in harmony with my own personal levels of cynicism I will forgo that particular form of duality.

Humility is not my strong point. However, when there is something I do not know - and I want to learn - I will seek out the knowledge.

That's why I am here.

Exactly, we have to "humble" ourselfs to whoever has that particular knowledge that we seek. We get that but there are plenty out there who don't.

The other "new" thing in all of this is the Brainwave entrainment technology that is out there.
Funny, it does actually work. Just not in the way that most expect.

The downside... These programs are f'ing expensive!

All this technology to speed up the process. Centuries ago one had to take a couple decades out of their life to study at the feet of a master. Now we seek to achieve the same results by plugging into a program paid for in "three easy payments of $99.99!"

I'm all for diversity of training and there isn't enough time to do that the old fashioned way. Technology was supposed to make our lives easier. I miss the pre-technology pace of life. However, every time I try to slow down and just take it all in I see my to-do list (or someone yells "Mommmmmmmmm" and I'm back to the post-technology crazy pace.

Hm. I think I'm seeing why I haven't found time to meditate lately. This is a good argument for finding a teacher with a quiet place already set up and then scheduling the time to be there. Oh, that's right, back to the problem of "$99.99."

Well, it's here it comes too gambling

Thats another thing people was better on in the "pre-technology-reality" They had faith and one who licked his masters feet had sold his life to that man. If you are willing to sell your life you woulden't have that money problem and you probably woulden't have kids to look after. There is after all a reason monks (and alike) are not allowed to have sexuell relationships

I think you have to chose somtimes. You cant eat the cake and keep it. (only sometimes) Either you have a life, or you go for the elite status.
