| How to Make a Pendulum |

Of the various forms of divination, tarot cards, I Ching, rune stones, etc., one of the simplest to make and use is the pendulum. A pendulum can be used for location spells, to answer yes or no questions, and many other things. A pendulum is simply an object that is hung from a piece of string or thin chain. It can be as simple as a ring tied to the end of some sturdy thread or as elaborate a beautiful crystal hung from a gold or silver chain. Some witches have better luck with using the crystal pendulums while others are quite content to use even an old lead fishing sinker. So long as the object used to make the pendulum is heavy enough to weigh down one end of the string, twine or chain. If you would like to try your hand at using this very easy form of divination then making yourself a pendulum can take as little as five minutes. If you desire something a bit more elaborate and have the time and artistic talent then you can make one using a crystal of your choice and some string or thin chain. While it is always preferred to make your own Craft items and tools, there is always the option of just purchasing one from any good online or local occult store. To make a very basic pendulum a silver or gold ring is great. It works especially well if it is one you wear all the time. It doesn't even have to be real gold or silver, copper or some sort of base metal will work as well once you have attuned yourself to the object. It is only needed for you to tie a piece of sewing thread to your ring when you need to use it as a pendulum. Most of the time the pendulum will answer ‘yes’ by swinging in a circle and for no, the ring generally will swing back and forth in a line. This is not, however, a consistent method for everyone so the first work with your pendulum should be to ask what motion will signify ‘yes’ and which way for ‘no’. If you prefer a more elaborate pendulum, then your going to need a stone or some sort of metal item with a hole drilled through it. Start with a length of thin hemp twine or chain, (about 5-8 inches), and a ring made of wood, plastic, metal, etc. or a medium sized round bead. Tie the stone or other object to one end. At this point if you would like to you can add some beads to the length of chain or string to decorate it. DO NOT use anything that has been magnetized. This will interfere with the energies you are working with and will mess with the pendulum's effectiveness. You can affix a small bead to the top part of the string as a ‘handle’ if you are going to hold it between your fingers. Alternately, a loop on the top for placing over your middle finger will work. Once the pendulum is complete you can begin your scrying work. A calm meditative state is needed for accurate readings. If seeking mere ‘yes’ and ‘no’ responses, you do not need a special surface under your pendulum. If you are attempting to locate something or someone, then having a map laid flat will help give your magic a reference point. With a bit of time you can get your pendulum to hover over the area you are searching for. You may need to utilize increasingly more detailed maps as you narrow the search. TO PUT IN MY 2 CENTS WORTH....I HAVE SEEN IT DONE WITH A STRING AND A WEDDING BAND, TOO. WHEN IT WAS HELD OVER A WOMAN IT WAS TO PREDICT HOW MANY CHILDREN AND WHAT GENDER SHE WAS TO HAVE IN HER LIFE TIME. THAT ALSO INCLUDED POSSIBLE MISCARRIGES ETC. I WAS TOLD IF THE PENDULUM GOES IN A CIRCLE THEN THE BABY IS MALE AND WHEN IT GOES FROM SIDE TO SIDE THEN IT IS A GIRL. YOU HAVE TO COUNT ON HOW MANY AND WHAT GENDER AND IF THERE AREN'T ANY THEN THE PENDULUM WOULD NOT MOVE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE IT IS PRETTY ACCURATE ANDIT REALLY MAKES YOU WONDER.

I just wanted to post that I just tried using the pendulum method and it was sooo right on with ALL my questions. I usually used the Tarot for my questions and they are very accurate too. I am amazed at how well the pendulum made the motions for the yes, no, and not sure. Very clear answers. Although I have one side affect from it. I have a headache. More pain than a usual headache. Has anyone ever gotten something like this when they were using a divining technique? Or is this just a fluke?
Anyway, thanks for the post. I now know another method for divining basic questions that the Tarot can give a little too much information that is needed.

This goes against everythig I have read about pendulum use. In some things that I have read it says that using a personal item, such as a ring, causes your wishes and energies to influence the out come of the answer. After testing this over and over I find that to be false. I asked some hard questions, ones that if I could have chosen the answer to be what I desired, I would have gotten a different answer then I got. The ring spoke the truth even though the truth was not what I wished it to be.
Thank you for this post. It has been very helpful. Any suggestions on more advanced workings with this kind of pendulum?
