Poppet Magic

There are many forms of magic ranging from the simple sympathetic forms of magic to the more complicated ceremonial styles of performing magic. Most of these forms of magic involve using various tools such as candles, incense, and images of the object for which the spell is targeted. Whether you practice witchcraft, voodoo, or other forms of earth based magic, a very effective form involves the use of what is commonly known as poppets, sometimes called voodoo dolls. It is the use of poppet magic that will be discussed here.

Contrary to the image that Hollywood and other media has promoted over the years of the witch or the voodoo priest, poppet magic is neither good nor evil but depends on what purpose such magic is used. Poppet magic is merely a form of sympathetic magic that involves the use of a figure that is made from wax, clay, or more often, cloth fashioned into a sort of doll. The doll is then stuffed with bits of the person’s hair, nail clippings, a sample of handwriting and herbs or other such items that are pertinent to the spell being cast.

For example, if you wish to cast a poppet spell for a friend to land a job, you would gather together the herbs or other ingredients to stuff into the doll that would pertain to wealth and prosperity. Include some sort of advertisement representing the company that your friend seeks employment with. You may add a bit of the person's hair to strengthen the energy bonds to the person in question, or even use a photo tacked on to the poppet's head of the person seeking to land the job.

You cast the spell and then, if your friend is aware of the spell, have him or her carry the poppet with them in their purse or somewhere on their person that won't be too obvious to anyone else. If they are unaware of what you are doing then try to find a discreet place in their car or home to place the poppet. If this is not possible then just leave it on your altar until the goal is achieved.

Making a poppet is exceedingly simple. It merely takes some cloth, scissors, needle and thread. It is best if natural or white colored cloth be used unless the color of the cloth is in direct correspondence with the purpose of the spell.

Make sure your cloth is big enough to fold over into two halves. You would then take a pencil, pen, or marker and draw a basic outline resembling a human figure. Cut out the shape so that you have two identical pieces. Sew together the patterned shapes leaving the top of the head open to stuff your ingredients in. All the while you are making the poppet visualize the person the poppet represents and what it is you wish for them to obtain.

Once it is finished you may say a finishing spell while sewing the top of the head shut or afterwards. If you have chosen to use a photographic image of the person's face on the head then attach this once all the sewing is done. Finish casting your spell if necessary and then place the poppet where you are going to put it. As with any magic, be careful how you use this particularly powerful form of it. Just as you send out it will return to you for ill or good.
