The main reason most spells fail is that the caster has not cleansed the area. First cast a circle. Second Cleanse the circle. Next cleanse the altar finally cleanse the room. Finally ground and center yourself. This should clear up any problems with casting spells. Check out the various Blogs that are posted on this site as to what is necessary.

I HAVE TO DITTO THE ABOVE ADVISE. IT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO CLEAR YOUR SPACE FROM ANY NEGATIVE ENERGY IN ORDER FOR YOUR SPELLS TO WORK. ALSO, SPELL WORK, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE TAKES A LITTLE PRACTISE. BUT, KEEP TRYING AND BELIEVE IN YOUR ABILITY.

honestly the main reason i believe most spells fail is belief
and has nothing to do with the actual ritualistic aspect

all rituals are nothing they are truly useless EXCEPT as a focus for your mind , will , and belief

the thing that stops most of us is the little voice in the back of our heads that tells us things are not possible
(learned reality)

ya it is kinda like the old roadrunner cartoons the coyote runs off the cliff and keeps running till he realizes what he is doing then the learned perception of what is real and what is not what is possible and what is not kicks in then for a split second his subconscious says no i cant do this and then he falls

or our spells fail

if you can ever get that voice to be totally gone then you would be able to do so called miracles or as witches call them spells

the cleansing of yourself your space the setting up of your temple both in the manifest world and in the spiritual realms the use of your athame and your candles ect are nothing more than tricks to get your mind to forget at least for a moment that the majority of society believes that what you are trying to do is supposedly impossible

as witches our conscious mind knows that it is real and possible but because of what we have been taught since before birth in our subconscious their is still a vestige of the voices of our friends and family our teachers and even strangers we have had contact with in our past
telling us that things just cant work

and it is this that stops us and foils our spell workings

as you get that voice to be quiet and dissapear you will notice the quieter it gets the more your spells will work

and if you can ever get it to leave totaly then you wont need rituals and spell workings to create magic all you will need is your will

and this is why the best most powerful spells are created with passion and cast in a moment of emotional heat

because at that moment we are so focused on our desire that it blocks everything else out and eliminates the possibility of failing

..... OR WIN THE LOTTERY. I THINK WE HAD THAT CONVERSATION BEFORE. MIND OVER MATTER, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

I have only been a witch for about a year and have had some great successes. I have read all the books i can find and to be quite honest i have found that doing what i feel is right works best. The simplest of rituals performed when you feel right have the most success. If i feel out of sorts or the mood isn't right then i don't try. I have also found that meditation helps a lot.

I guess its very much an individual thing but my belief in the way i do things probably has a lot to do with it.

one other ingredient here... You have to do the practical work to back up the magical work.

Like you want a job? Cast the spell and then go put in applications. Put your resume on websites and just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

This is the "lottery" refference... You can do all the magic you want to win the lottery, you won't win until you BUY THE TICKET.

Another thing to note is that not all spells are noticed on impact. You may not have failed. In my tradition a witch with nothing is just as powerful as witch with every tool of the trade and wall full of potions, herbs and oils. Your intent in your spell work begins the moment you think about what you are wanting to accomplish. From there what you put into it is what powers it. There are witches who work in nothing other than the astral plane using no physical tools. Cleaning your circle (if you even cast one, I do not always cast and we call it a compass) is just part of the focusing ritual. As with anything on the physical plane, sometimes you get what you invest.

As Jaspar said, you can go through all the ritual steps to focus your mind on your task, the steps create the focus and the energy. You can accomplish the same with nothing more than the decision to work your magic and create the same focus at will. This will likely take practice.

I would suggest getting your meditation down to an art form so that you can literally see in your minds eye all that you would have done in the physical plane to work your spell. Once you do that, if you choose to go through the steps of the ritual in the physical plane it will be much easier and possibly more rewarding.

I use rituals and circles/compass when my focus is off because the steps and the motions bring my focus directly to my task and help me tune out all else.

Remember that not all witches work solely at their altar and not all witches have to plan out by date and day and lunar phase what they will be doing. Your passion is your energy, use it to its full potential.
