In the third phase we enter the cocoon. The Deer comes with gentle compassion to help us gather strength and release what no longer serves us well as we explore our new paths and patterns. As vision grows we see both our dreams for the future and our nightmares from the past. It is the blessing of Deer medicine that carries us. The Deer leads us through the cocoon phase. We have all been there. It is dark and feels confined, stuck at times, but we are protected. It is where we begin to see hidden parts of ourselves and others. They may be ugly or beautiful. It is not ours to judge. I am Deer and I look for the hidden good, but I do not shy from danger or the warped aspects of nature. In this phase I cultivate patience and calmness in order to simply see what is, to endure and to discover new paths. For it is on the well trodden paths that the predators of habit will find you. Those ways are known to many, they are worn bare by heavy footed patterns of the world. I look at them with "doe eyes" of gentle compassion then choose another direction that leads into fresh green grass or tree speckled shadows. Any new path is fine. I know that in this darkness the Mother of All guides and directs each One. It is enough to decide to shift course. Move slowly and easily into the unknown and unfamiliar always listening in the Silence between heartbeats. There is no hurry, only the coming sparkle of dew in the clear rays of morning. My four hooves are planted firmly on the earth while my ears or antlers are receptive to the inner sounds and signals, the small details that lead me Home. / ~*~ / Feel completely free to share this message with everyone and to respond with your own thoughts, feelings or stories. / ~*~ / With Love, Gratitude and Respect for All Life, David Wodtke
