This post contains absolutely nothing that a witch needs to know. What I will be discussing is the witch in pop culture. Not my usual topic choice but one that apparently needs someone to talk about. My elders made me do it as a penance for something I did or maybe it is to be used for teaching me something. Witches in pop culture have gone through many changes. In the early years they were seen as people who ran off and did mysterious things several times a year. This would have been thousands of years before Christ or any other formal religion. You did not ask a witch what she/he did during that time and they did not inform the public. It was a mystery that they did not share. Witches were seen to work beneficial magic to help the community and educate the young. They paid the price of each spell cast with their bodies. Flash forward to the Middle ages. Witches now have pointy hats, warty nose, hide out in the woods, and use a cauldron to make evil brews and spells. They fly using a broom, and cast spells using a wand. They take children in the middle of the night and make pacts with the devil, who watches over them with a Black Cat. They paid for their spells with souls of the living. Nobody is safe if the witch decides to destroy the home you live in. Only Warlocks (lock keeper in war and another post) can destroy them. Be afraid be very afraid. The Church has no control over them and they are very very evil. They are banned in all Good and Up Right communities. Kill the witch!!! Flash forward to the late 20th Century. 1959 or there about. Witchcraft is a folk religion that is cool to be a part of. Nobody can do anything with the magic stuff so it's all fake. Look at Sabrina the teenaged witch, she is cool and is friends with Archie and the gang. Fight your parents with magic stuff and they will leave you alone. Let the hair grow out and long and smoke all kinds of weeds that you want. You can see tomorrow and next week with this weed/ drug. Peace and love are all the rage. No cost to cast spells drugs and weeds are all that you need. 1987 or there about. Harry Potter is the worlds most favorite witch. Wands and cauldrons are back and flying broomsticks. Witches learn in schools that control what the student does so as not to harm the community around it. Witchcraft is not something that you learn but rather you are born with it. You are either a Witch or a Muggle. The two are separate and the Witch is superior to the Muggle. NO cost to cast spells. Either you are a witch or you are not a witch and nobody has to pay the price. You buy your wand from some person called Olivander. You buy every thing you need at Diagon Alley. School is someplace where you live for 9 months a year. There is an agency that watches over you, if you are a witch. Pointy hats are so last century and no self respecting witch wears one. If this is the craft you are seeking then go and read any of the popular culture books on magic. I understand that Mercedes Lackey has several and so does J.K. Rowling. Not that these women practice magic. NO they write about it so it is ok to do it, so say the Parents. If someone were to follow the spells they created then most of the spells would fail. If the potion were made the Potter universe way then all you would get is colored water, or wine. Pop culture has it's use but don't let culture get in the way of the real reason you are a practicing witch. I won't cast a spell in the way the pop culture describe and I always pay the price for each spell. Mostly the cost is physical but sometimes the price is in other goods for the cost. Blessings upon you who read this post.
